From what i remember the V belt behind the Flywheel was for a cooling fan. so would have been rad cooled, P5X were mainly used on generators and in Fuel Bowser's for the RAF.

ST info exchange has all the manuals etc for this type of engine.

Cheers Steve

I have a P5X which is an ex Air Ministry close coupled generating set. This uses a flat belt at the rear of the flywheel to drive the cooling fan. I should imagine yours is a variation of the cooling process. The basic construction of the P5X is the same as the P5M, the main difference being in the engine casting where the gearbox on the P5M is attached. My P5X, which I acquired some 40 years ago is currently stripped for its first major overhaul and in the future I should be able to report progress.
