Ruson PB 1 1/2

Post  Statman on Fri Sep 18, 2009 9:05 pm

Hi Boys and Girls!!

I went earlier to see a chap with a Ruston PB (Villiers Coil.....) and it seemed tasty although had no spark as he aint used it for 5 years but it has a crankshaft like a bucked bycycle so i nearly walked away so he said how much will you give me.....I said how much did you want he said 60 or so quid.....I said i got 30 he said go on!!

Its a nice solid'ish engine but with a few probs

Pics to follow when photobook can be asred

You got your self a bargain there, if you cant get it to go you will sell the bits for more than you paid for it Smile

Yeh i am chuffed i got it at that price!

I hoping it is the points or maybe the condensor!

Im hoping i can sort out the crankshaft problem!

Probaly this will be my 1st ever engine restoration?

Paul Sterling says i get it sorted or pay for a new one?

Bit of a update!

Post  Statman on Fri Sep 18, 2009 11:10 pm

I have just recieved a email from Ray Hooley with history of the engine

Ruston 6PB 200894, rated 1.5hp, was first sold on 13.4.1940, to agents G.C.Ogle & Sons, Ripley, Derbys. It was sold again, on 30.9.1941, to Farm Industries Ltd, Cornwall. I don't know whether it actually went to Ogles - or whether their order was cancelled.

That was the real reason you were not at the rally today playing with your new toy! Bit of a shame you got it started I was going to offer you £40 for it as spares for the starting air compressor engine on my Mclaren!!
