WELL I COLLECTED THE ENGINE ON SUNDAY
STRIPPED IT DOWN FOR A CLEAN UP AND SEE WHATS WHAT WITH IT
THERE IS NO JAP stamped onto it anywere not on the castings, cowling, id numbers dont even match JAP data
on the dip stick it does say stamped into it 4/3

removed head and valve cover to find the exhurst valve was stuck open but some lub down the stem and got my flat screwdrver
too see if it would move and plop it closed and the valve seats are spot on still good so far
then onto turning over to BDC and no rust or gremlins down the bore
then i noticed the head gasket in the middle was showing signs of blow out " ooh shit her it goes " the head was flat as it should be
then cheecked the block exspecting the worst BUT no that was flat as flat to no pitting or burnout scares,
so i had a look at the head gasket and there on the under side of the alloy gasket pressed into it were the 2 starwashers missing of the head stud nuts
so looks like somone gave it a decoke and then it would no longer start so stuck in the shed
so next the MAGNETO took 5 mins and we have ignition .
cleaned carb out and reasembled the engine
so its a case lift outside and fit my test tank for now as dos have original tank with but tap is soaking as siezed up closed
so soon to follow
FINGERS CROSSED THE FIRST FIRE UP

Didn't we confirm it was the Villiers Version? so it wouldnt have JAP stamped into it.

villiers E30 or a 4/3 JAP with the villiers name on
have dated the engine now and it is a 1964
1 year after jap seised trading
also found the stamp mark on cowling from 1964 too
so that is a confirmation of dating
found it after i started to remove the paint back to original blue colour
i did fire the engine but the head gasket and compound didnt work as well as thought
so ive located and now in my hands a genuine new old stock alloy head gasket for it
so hope it solves the problem
head and block are as flat as they come so gasket took the force of the washers left under it and gasket is tappered on reinspection 1mm at each endarround the studs were washers were found on decoke and valve seating
