Slightly off the rails!
Hello,
I'm Alan. I have long had an interest in all things mechcanical and have several friends and acquantances with stationary engines. My great loves are steam and railways. I own and have rallied a 4" Clayton and purchased a small 12.25" steam loco. I am building a line in my garden for this and, so I have an instant starter, have built an electric loco. Ebay has intervened and I have purchased a part built 5/8th scale Lister Auto Truck loco. Unfortunately the builder died before it was finished. It is being sold with a modern Acme ACT 280 ohc motor which hasn't yet been fitted and frankly I think will be too powerful and not quite in keeping with the loco. The transmission is by an Eaton hydraulic drive. So I am looking for a smaller 4stroke side valve. A JAP would seem the obvious choice as that's what Lister fitted to the prototypes. So, suggestions for a suitable motor please and if anyone has something suitable for sale (must be good runner, I have far too many projects for another restoration!) please let me know.
Alan
ps, anyone want to buy a barely used Acme ACT 280!

Re: Slightly off the rails!
Hi Alan and welcome to the forum.
Quite a few interesting progects you have going. The Lister Auto truck (i might be wrong) was fitted with a Villiers engine in later life and I think they were used without any problems. Looking at your new project it does look heavy so maybe a Brigg and Stratton might be a bit more powerful and suit your needs better.
