hi everyone,

Post  KonradS on Mon Nov 28, 2011 12:56 pm

hi there,
I am new to the forum, the reason is a 1928 Ruston Hornsby 6AP. This engine worked till the mid 70ies in a mill before it was stored away. I will try to get it running again, but there is no chance to get any spares in Germany. Mainly the govenor is missing, 2 bolts and 3 nuts fixing the hopper and other small parts.
Last week I tried to remove the Flywheels and pulley, but I did not even get out the key. The parts are like welded together and I did not dare to use excessive force. Is there any idea? Might heat be helpful?

This is not my first restauration project, but I think I will need a little help.

Many thanks,
Konrad

Hi Konrad and welcome to the forum. Very Happy

Getting gib keys out can be a right pain in the ass, have you got a removal tool? sometimes you even need heat but don't go wild your just breaking the rust seal that's been there since it was built. I doubt that the flywheels will be welded on (all thought stranger things have been done) as it would have more then likely damaged the crank.

Stu.
