Hi to all, new member, no engine as yet...
Just to say Hi to everyone on this forum. Hope this is in the correct place... Lots to learn.
Bit of background... No stationary engine as yet, but actively looking seriously. A friend has a rather nice Wolseley which I've been interested in for some time. We'll see.
Brought up with and still very interested in classic motorcycles, primarily British '30s to '60s. '51 G80 Matchless and a '58 BMW on the road at the moment. Rebuilt many and have a reasonable garage/workshop. Hold a pilot's licence for microlights and light aircraft although not flown for a while now. Trained at Sherburn and was based a Sandtoft. Rebuilt and ran a '66 Sunbeam Alpine V for 20+ years. Always appreciated stationary engines from being a child but not owned any (yet). Pickering, Whitby and a couple of shows in Lincolnshire over the years have only served to enhance the possibility of having my own. Based in West Yorkshire. Regards to all...

Hi and welcome to the forum.
Is your name anything with where you live? If it is I've visited Sandtoft trolley bus a few times and it's a great place for a day out.
There's always plenty of engines to choose from and at the end of the day you have to decide what you'd like. The only thing I will say is they are very addictive and it's difficult to just buy one. There's a few new members that's joined us this year and are now the owner of a few engines already. So maybe have a good look round and ask questions about an engine to see the good and bad points about an engine before you decide. As you'll have already seen they vary in size and weight so if you have back problems you may need to consider something small or lighter to move about and think about the vehicle you'll use to transport it.
Happy engine hunting,
Stu.

Mike, I think it's a BSA Ariel Three you need if memory serves me right, right down your street, enough power for you to handle.

What you want is a Rudge Ulster

My Grandfather had one, and towed his 1st car home with it....was a fabric bodied Austin 7, but he pulled it up some hill! Quite advanced for its age, 4 valves in a bronze head.
Cheers Steve

That's one great looking bike, they don't make them like that any more. Just goes to show how smart British engineering was even in the early days, shame we lost it all.

i agree Stu its a cracker of a bike....
we the British used to be the top in engineering back in the day,but now it gone down hill so fast they cant stop..
its a pity,if you think back to when we were on top we were making some great things, but like most things it comes to an end..its a crying shame most of the car manufacturing factory's are gone and houses have been built on them..
clarkson and his cronies went to the bl factory back sometime ago and its gone, they went to another and it was now owned by BMW..SHAME......
regards,mike...
