Thanks for the welcome guys. Bound to have a few questions about this lark before long, like what would be a good engine for a beginner to start with should he have the intention of doing the odd show ?

HI TED..
a lot of us started on a LISTER D..but i guess some will tell you what they started on..
its a easy engine to get into the engine scene...there a doddle to work on as well...
if you want to but one i have a few for sale,but im in Dorset..may be to far for you to travel..
theres lots on eBay most days...good luck ..
