Hello from another newbie

Post  Motorhead on Thu Jun 30, 2011 8:15 pm

I've not long had a Lister D and hope to get it restored to some sort of running and useful condition. My learning curve is pretty much straight up but slowly finding useful info and publications on the net. Spare parts are a big problem here in France where I live. Stuff on UK Ebay is well pricey even before you add the postage to Antarctica (France) but I suppose that's the downside to living here out of range of the spy cameras back in UK. Just wanted to say hello and thank those of you who take the trouble to help out fellow engine nutters with their hobby.

Hi,sorry don't know your christian name.i have welcomed you in the new members post....
i was wondering if you go to the GREAT DORSET STEAM FAIR over here in BLANDFORD in DORSET?
as we get a lot of enthusiasts from over the water like germany/Belgium/France etc.they come over and collect things they have bought from people over here, such things as complete and running engines, parts etc.what i was going to suggest was if you did come over to the show, you could souse a lot of bits you wanted this way.i have a lot of LISTER D spares in my posecion.this way you could come to the show and also get all the parts/engines you wanted.its a 5day show and like i said a great source of all sorts.
regards,mike.

Thanks for the warm welcome. I am aware of the Dorset Steam Fair as I used to live in Poole, but sadly I was in to sailing and boats at the time and never bothered to attend this great event. I've now got the sailing out of my system and have discovered engines. I don't get back to UK for financial reasons but if I did, I would certainly try to make the visit coincide with a rally. So for now I will just keep an eye on the engine forums and Ebay for parts needed and cross my fingers.
And the name is Dave.................
