Stainless Steel welding.

Post  stationary stu on Fri Jun 10, 2011 5:16 pm

Can anyone tell me if it's straight forward to weld stainless steel? I need to mig weld stainless steel and is it the same as steel or will I need special welding wire? I've got some brackets that are ideal for making an axle so can anyone give me some info please.

Done some reading up and I'm now even more confused ( if that's possable Laughing Laughing ) I use a gas-less mig welder and everything I've read is about the gas to use, so I don't know if I can weld with a gas-less welder. It looks as if I need special welding wire Crying or Very sad I've learned that it's very dangerous to inhale the fumes when welding stainless steel. No
So I still need abit of help about the gas-less part of it.

Not a problem Matt, I might have to have a re-think about welding the axle as I don't think it will be strong enough, so looking at plating and bolting it now.
