genral pump query ...

Post  matt86 on Fri Jun 03, 2011 7:57 pm

I have a small climax domestic pump , i have mounted it on a base and im planning to fix a small barrel on the end of the base would i need to have the inlet gravity fed .... as once all connected up will be no uncoupling to prime it and connect pipe back up ... i just want to pour water in tank and pump . If has to be gravity fed i would have the outlet of the drum the same level as inlet on the pump as will have a small head of water . The barrel holds around 15 liters.

many thanks . matt

Hi Matt, If your valves are good on the pump it should be able to pump its own water.

I set up my pumps the same as you are describing for yours. If you put enough water in the tank the pump will self bleed through your delivery side.

So can just put the barrel on the frame next to the pump ... might raise it slightly so level with pump base though ...

All my pumps that have been set up with barrels are level with the pump. Bill.

Sorry, I see its a Climax. The stuffing box is the cylindrical part that your con rod is attached to.

MATT..
when you come to take it apart to fit the new GLAND packing, try to see if you can get it out and measure it to make sure the size is correct..
then hopefully it should be ok..
good luck with it fella..keep us posted..
regards,mike.
