Jap engine model and cc

Post  stationary stu on Tue May 31, 2011 11:16 am

I found this and thought it might be helpful for someone. It's a list of JAP (JA Prestwich Industries), was an English engineering company named after founder John Alfred Prestwich) They made both stationary engines and the larger engines were used in the JAP motorcycles (a lot were used in speedway motor cycles), aircraft and Morgan sports cars had the V-Twin. The JAP stationary engine ranged in size from the smallest 34cc two stroke to the much larger type 6 engine, and were used on such things as rotovators, generating sets, milking sets, water pumps, hay elevators and other agricultural machines. They were usually 4-stroke and were usually reliable. They supplied engines to a lot of motor cycle makers and also made parts for some car manufacturers.

Model 0 (34cc) Two Stroke

Model 2A (98cc) Four Stroke

Model 2S (98cc) Four Stroke

Model 4F (186cc) Four Stroke

Model 4/2 (245cc) 2.4bhp @ 2400rpm, Wico Mag A576BZ Four Stroke

Model 4/3 (288cc) 3.5bhp @ 2400rpm, Wico Mag CJ936 Four Stroke

Model 5 (412cc) 4.5bhp @ 2200rpm, Wico Mag CJ936 Four Stroke

Model 6 (588cc) 5.5bhp @ 1800rpm, Wico Mag CJ936 Four Stroke

Model 55 (824cc) (V-twin) 8bhp @ 2000rpm, Wico Mag Four Stroke

JAP was later sold to Norton Villiers

Couple more to add to the list,

JAP MF Water cooled 4 stroke, water cooled version of the 2A

JAP model 3 made in conjunction with ALCO who made the featherweight, overhead valve 4 stroke

JAP D270 which was made in conjunction with Villiers, air cooled high speed diesel.

http://www.cybermotorcycle.com/gallery/jap/JAP_Diesel_D270.htm

There is also a water cooled V twin industrial engine.

Thats all I can think of at the mo, well there was a JAP model 3 which which was made after the JAP/Villiers buy out but it was nothing like the orginal JAP model 3.

Cheers Steve

Thanks for the additonal info Steve. I do like the 2A water cooled, I know I'm strange but just like tank cooled engines no matter of there size.

Just had a chance of a MF, but at £325 I had to leave it, not my kind of price with another baby on the way!, I think its going to appear on ebay sometime soon.

Just for refrence, the JAP V twin was a 750cc avaliable in air or water cooled, the air cooled engines were fitted to Lister Autotrucks, where as the water cooled engine were used as part of Dennis fire pumps, a singe cylinder version was also made.

Also had a chance at one of these but again at £400 I had to leave it Sad

Cheers Steve

Congrats Steve and his wife for the announcement of the birth of your forthcoming arrival.

I never knew Jap made anything as large (cc) so thanks for letting me know, I thought the biggest was 500cc.

Stu.
