Ruston PT noise?
Today was a day that I didn't know where to start so I quickly had a look at my PT. When I bought it the owner said it had a rattle from the top end of the engine. So when I got it home I tried it but couldn't get it to run very well, and yes a loud rattle from the top of the engine, well asking about a friend said his PT was the same. So today I quickly pulled the head off and had a look to see if anything stupid had happend like something drop into the bore. Nothing looks wrong but there is a very loud crack coming from the mag (wico) when turning the engine over, is this normal? should I be worried about it or is there a fault with the mag, or am I missing something wrong in the engine. The tappets are very wide so I'm going to de-coke them and re-set before putting the head back on. Can anyone tell me the valve clearances please.
Any information greatly received,
Stu.

No it's a normal impulse mag, it's just a very LOUD click. Not got anything else stripped like I say it's a strange (light) rattle as if there was something is loose. I might just leave it for now then rebuild it and try and get the noise on video if I don't get any other views to what it might be.
Thanks Stu.

Stu have a look at the rubber cupling that fits on the end of the impulse bit of the mag, these split sometimes or could just be worn out.
Set the tappets to 16 tho that will keep it nice and sweet.
Make sure the governer springs are ok if they are worn the govners clang on the side of the engine

Only one letter difference put a B instead of a T. Oh well
Think I'm trying to do to much at once and my minds not with it.
