Tyre Walls

A lot of people think that the tyre on a trailer is just a car tyre well they are different. A trailer tyre has stronger side walls and more plys in the tyre construction. A normal car tyre is 4 ply yet a van tyre is 6 ply some are even 8 ply for higher weight carrying capacities. I might be wrong in the plys as it's a few years since I had anything to do with them but thats the basics even if the plys are different now.
So Martin if you were just using normal tyres this would explain the tyre side wall failure.

Stu.

From what I remember they were rated as proper trailer tyres, and all of the replacements I had were trailer tyres as well. I am pretty sure they were 4 ply one's. I certainly do not rate putting 8" tyres on any trailer due to experience.

I wonder if anybody else has had bad experience with them. They did not ever blow out, but I am sure they would have if I had not changed them.

Martin
