STEVE...
You need to take into consideration that apart from getting the seller to crate it,or get him to take it to the shippers,if they wont collect it the shipper will sometimes collect and crate the item(at an extra cost )or you mite find that its all in with the cost of shipping if your lucky
but theres VAT to pay once its arrived in the UK as well, and that can be a fair bit on top of the price,my R+V that i got cost me and extra £286.00 on top....(well choked as i didn't get told about that) and they don't have VAT in the states...
so in my opinion you need to contact a shipper over here, your best bet would be one that's at tilbury docks,(as most of the stuff from the states comes through there) and find out if they can crate..shipp..and deliver to your door...

sounds like a lot of hard work, and it is unless you sort everything out....
will try and find my receipt and give you the details of the shipper that delivered mine...

regards...mike.....

Yea the vat may be a pain, depends how dear the engine is, the ones I have seen are all bellow the 1000 dollar mark, just will have to see how it goes.

My mate has been shipping some engines over from the States, but has been paying £400 in taxes etc for each which rather takes the shine off of a "bargain" Steve.

I've had a lot shipped from the States in the last few months and Customs have cost me a fortune, wouldn't like to guess at something the size of an engine when a CB radio cost me £30.
