Strange engine with double ended piston

Hi all,
I have a very strange engine that has a double ended piston with a combustion chamber top and bottom, I thought this woud be the place to ask. i think I have attached a picture of the engine.

Nice. Got no idear what it is but it looks like a marine engine, I have a feeling Junkers made an engine that had a "double" piston, it might be one of these.

I agree i think its a Marine engine, what with the gear box on the back.
It must be a 2 stroke as theres no sump to speak off and the fact that it has the chance to fire every 180 degrees would make it a good smooth 2 stroke.

If the mag is original it is a ML so that would point to a British engine. One for the SEM me thinks.

Hi Dave, That is an unusual engine. I would agree with the others and say it is a marine engine.

What threads are on the studs etc. ?

As has been suggested you should send a photo to Patrick Knight at Stationary Engine magazine asking for any information on the engine. Patrick may be able to help you with it himself or he may put your photo into the " Identity and Assistance " section in the magazine.
