Identification of Lister Engine

I recently bought a saw bench which is powered by a Lister diesel engine. The engine is in need of some TLC both functionally and cosmetically. When I first took delivery the engine ran well, however now it will not start and it seems to be suffering from a lack of compression suggesting that a valve is stuck open. Before I start to strip the engine I would like to get hold of any maintenance documentation I can. I would also like to get a parts/spares catologue. I have the details of the engine from the flywheel casting and the identification plate, which has a small part missing.

The flywhell number is 20HO208. The identification plate has the following details recorded on it. No. 17/6 SRIA24.... or 1776 SRI24.... THP6 BS649 RPM 1800. The .... is where the ident plate is damaged.

Can anyone help identify this engine please?

In addition to the info I provided earlier here is an image of the engine concerned.

Reading between the lines it looks like the 1,776th Lister SR1 built in 1974

Check the de-compression lever is not sticking.

IF it follows on from the numbering system Lister used between 1952 & 1981, it would be the 247th 8/1 built in 1984

Quite a few countries made Lister’s under License, saves on import duties etc.
