Armstrong Siddeley diesel engine...

Post  casper on Sun Feb 06, 2011 3:55 pm

Well, i've bought another old diesel. An Armstrong Siddeley single cylinder. The serial number is DE13477. It says 8hp at 1200rpm. I've had it running and it goes okay. It hadn't been started for a few months and produced a load of black smoke at first..
Anyone got any information on these, maybe a manual?

I've bought some nice old steel wheels, which have S Corbett & Son, Wellington, Shropshire stamped on them. Made a strong trolley for this engine and it's now fitted onto it. Can't start it properly yet as first i'm going to clean out the fuel tank and lines as there is a lot of crud in the fuel filter!!

Looks good Gary,

mines very similar, but has a different tank bracket arrangement, and doesnt have tow outputs on the timing casing end, just the half speed for starting, i use a modified ferguson tef starting handle for cranking it over.

Cheers,

Paul. Very Happy

Started this engine for the first time today, really needs a good run and a service but at least it did start....
Captured a video of the event, loads of smoke too....

Looks like a nice lump. In my opinion it seems to be putting out a bit of blue smoke as well as the black. If you check this one out you'll see what I mean.

Sorry I cannot help much with engine but I would say not to run it again with the washing hanging out, easiest way to get your slapped that I know.

If so snap.

Garry, See when you crank an engine over please watch your thumbs in case the engine kicks back, you will have broken thumbs of not.

Paul ,Gary will only do it the once Laughing Laughing Try putting some clean engine oil in it ,change it a couple of times see if that helps the smoke.
Sounds good Smile
