Well I've never painted an engine yet but will be very soon, only thing I could tell you is you need to get rid of all the rust and old paint so you have a good base to start from. Looking at some of the engines that belong to forum members I'm sure your going to get lots of good advice. Don't forget your marigolds and thats not a snipe at being a lady, just paint can be difficult to remove from under nails, they also protect your hands if using rust removing chemicals etc.
Good luck,
Stu.

Re: sanding and painting
If possible take close up photos of al the parts you are going to take off, then you can use this as reference to putting back together.
Strip everything off the engine put all nuts , bolts ,washers and anything else into a ice cream container or similar.
Depending how far you are going to go with it if you want to do a propper job Take cylinder head off
Valves out ,Disconect the con rod take piston out. Now you will have a pill of bits dont worry
You have your photos as a refference.
Now everything needs to be washed off with a degreaser.
Once dryed you can use a wire brush on a drill or better still see if you can find some body to shot blast the bits.
If poss you need to get down to bare metal.
Painting this is my choice I prime everything with red oxide paint 2 coats but remember to let it dry 24 hours in between coats.
While the bits are drying start cleaning all the other peices nuts bolts. See if Ryan will buy a cheap bench grinder and fit a brass wire wheel to it one end.
now back to the painting if its going to be Pink you need to now paint a grey under coat.
Leave to dry again.
Then I always put 2 coats of top coat Enamal Paint then I leave it to dry for about 3 weeks
This hardens the paint right of.
So now you start planning the trolly you need to find some wheels and axles again they need to be claned and painted
If poss use Hard wood.
Then buy this time its time to start making you gasgets or you can still buy some for your engine on E- Bay.
After the 3 weeks of dryings up start buy cleaning the surfaces that are going to have the gasgets on, make sure everything is clean.
You will have to get somebody to show you how to grind the valves in .
Then start putting back together
DO NOT TRY TO RUSH THINGS
Before you now it you will be finished.
Try and find a motor Factor buy you and you will get all your paint in one place.
I hope this makes sence
GO GIRL GO
