Poor spark condensor problem?

Post  piston power on Tue Oct 12, 2010 12:56 pm

Re built the Lister engine all that there is now is the magneto, Tested this today and the spark is poor at least there is one i was thinking of replacing the condensor as i would have in the old Cortina!

Would you agree and is this under the black cap at the top?

The points may require a little clean and re gap what do you use to clean points electrical cleaner?

I cleaned the the contacts in the black cap with emery cloth so hopefully this made some differance.

I would take the cap off first clean the ends off the coils and the earthing wires.
Try this before you buy a condenser normaly if theres a
spark you can get them to run and they will re magnitise there selfs

Aside from speaking to vinatge magnetos, your best course of action is to buy nigel mcburney's Lister D restoration book, that has a detail section on magnetos and how to clean them properly, do that and you should be laughing.

cheers.
