Petter M series 1
Hi to you all, ive just joined the forum, although not new to stationary engines, i shall be lurking every now and then when time allows!
I used to attend a few shows around 2003-2006 but had to stop due to work getting in the way.
Any way just thought you would like to see the only engine i have left from my collection, My little petter m series 1.
These were collected by my dad around 1969 along with another M type (jelly mould) a Hartop, 2 wds, shaft drive D, and a lister A, he went on to restore them all and as a little boy i can remember the days when he used to run them up on the front lawn! around 1974.
As time went on they were put in the back of the tractor shed in 1975 and forgot about untill around 2002, we were clearing the shed out ,and pulled them out one by one.
Not sure what to do with them, he said did i want them? So i took them to my work shop and had a tinker around!
After lots of swearing and blisters i managed to get a few running, and set about painting them up again.
It was then i took a few to local shows, for a few years, but then what with house moves and children i gave it all up again, although i did enjoy my time out with them!
One thing led to another and i had to part with them all (i was in need of a Land Rover Discovery) so sold all of them except one that i will always keep!
My Petter M series 1.
I never had much joy with this engine, as it never ran as well as other petters i saw out and about.
So it was stripped back to nothing, re worked the bearings and gave every thing a good sort out!
I sent the mag off to some chaps in Stroud and they done a fantastic job of rewinding it ( it was very green inside and was the main reason for the running problems!!!!)
Finally i have a lovely little Petter that runs like clockwork, she fires into life with one turn of the flywheels.
Its No 100016. 16th off the production line, Supplied to Collier and Curtley aggricultural engineers 6/3/1922, and returned to the factory and rebuilt and rebored in Aug 1930,[img][/img] I have now finnished off the cooling tank, which is mounted on a nice period stand and looks the part, maybe just maybe it may return to the show grounds again?
untill then i just fire her up every month or two and just listen to the lovely Petter sound!
Kind regards Ian
P.s i have tried to put up all the photos but not sure if it worked or not!
if not i will try again.
