ah i think it could be that the sealing between the carb and the engine could be a bit ineffective, the engine might be sucking air in rather than producing a vacuum for the fuel, like steve says, strip the carb down, clean and flatten the joints and provide new gaskets/seals to make it airtight. i hope that helps

if i'm honest ryan, the hit and miss principle escapes me, i just cant see the point, but it obviously worked (for a while Very Happy )

if i had one myself i'd probably be able to give a better answer, but what i've said is the best i can come up with, if its no better come june we'll fix it at the 1000 engine!! hahaha, and you can beat up some gobsh1tes!!!!!!!!

Erm where is the fuel bowl then? its just a pipe from the tank, through a needle valve(controling the ammount of fuel to be let through) then mixed with air and drawn into the cylinder for combustion.....

Or did I miss something??? Very Happy

remember when we tipped the tank to ensure fuel was running through ok, it went in a kinda dish shape thing and kinda like an over flo tray, thats the fuel bowl lol, ( I think)

Thats strange, A fuel bowl open to the air?

So how does it draw up the fuel then? because there is quite a big gap for it to draw up from. And it didnt seem to suck the fuel in when that bowl was full.

interesting one here. Very Happy

Is more of a reservoir, its the same for alot of engines with atmospheric intake valves, the fuel sit there open to the air and when the piston withdraws its sucks in the required amount of air and fuel, as well as pulling more fuel up the the reservoir. if you get what i mean?

The carb on the Sattley is similar the fuel sits just behind the choke until needed.

That type on the Bamford set my Granddad on fire when it backfired, he would never have another Bamford after it.

perhaps on the grounds of safety you might like to fit a low pressure non return valve to the fuel pipe ryan?
