petter a1 timing

hi there can anyone help? i have a 1946 petter a1 and i wondered where the timing marks are? i am new to the stationary engine scene and would appreciate any help anyone can give many thanks jimmy

I have no idea on the timing but someone else may know!

If i had a guess the impulse needs to click at tdc this is when the key for the flywheel is at the bottom

Petter A1's have an impulse trip fitted to retard and intensify the spark at the plug for starting, the retardation is around 15 degrees.

in normal running conditions, ie with the impulse disengaged (above 165rpm) the timing should be 20 degree's before top dead centre

timing marks can be found on the flywheel, or at least the TDC mark will be, 20 degrees is something like 2" or so before that i think, anyway, 2" will make the timign close enough, and if the engine clicks dead on TDC you know you cant be far off.

the Petter A1 manual will tell you how to do it, you can get hold of these from the internal fire website (along wth many others) for an access fee of £10, afterwich you can download as many as you like.

to get an accurate mark for the timing mark. first find top dead centre, then measure the circumference, divide this measurement by 360,= the amount to measure for each degree..
EG if the measurement of the circumference is 360mm divide by 360( degrees in a full circle ). =1 mm per degree so 20' btdc would be 20mm
this always works for me,
