Pump seals.

Ok before I mess up am I right in thinking that new leather seals to go into a lister water pump have to be soaked in oil first. If so how long for?

Neates Foot Oil is the ideal lubricant, but I just soak them for a day in a vegetable or olive oil. Whatever the wife wont miss!

Amos pumps recommend soaking for about a week in vegetable oil.

Makes the cups nice and supple for getting them in the pump.

When I was in the Airforce you had to soak the Hub seals on a Bedford MK for 24 hrs before fitting but i noticed if you left them longer they lasted longer so if you leave them for a week or so you should be ok.

Also try and soak the seals in oil that it will be lubricated with that way the oil wont try and separate due to diffrent viscosity ( blody big word for this time of night).
